What is meditation?

The purpose of meditation can vary, depending on what the practitioner wants to achieve. In general, meditation is about increasing attention and awareness. Many people find that it also provides increased well-being, mental clarity and calm, and helps relieve pain and anxiety. Traditionally, meditation is a way to see things as they really are.

Our minds are constantly telling us stories about our lives—past, present, and future—that often take us out of the moment. When our minds focus only on small goals like our next meal or our next paycheck, it can feel limiting. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it can be frustrating to chase small things in a world that’s constantly changing.

Meditation is about being present without trying to change anything. It offers many benefits, such as greater mental flexibility, patience, and compassion.

Through meditation we learn to understand how both the world and ourselves work. By listening deeply to ourselves, we adapt to life and flow with it, instead of resisting it. Although this may feel uncomfortable at first, in the long run it can give us freedom.

Meet the teacher

Christian Andvig Fredheim

I am so excited to share this amazing practice with you. I started meditating about 13 years ago, and it wasn’t easy at first. But it wasn’t long before I realized that meditation has a huge potential to transform the mind – from a critical voice to a positive supporter.

Today, meditation is one of my most important “medicines.” It helps me be present, gives me more joy, and improves my relationships – both privately and at work. I believe meditation is one of the most important tools we have to find true joy and freedom. That’s why I’ve been teaching meditation and mindfulness for over ten years. I want others to experience joy in life, too, and I believe meditation can help do just that.

My meditation practice is rooted in Tibetan Buddhism, which places great emphasis on developing compassion, love for all life, and wisdom. My practice started on my meditation cushion – and it still does. But meditation has gradually become an integral part of my everyday life, as I believe it is meant to be. It flows from the seated practice into everything else I do.

I hope I can inspire and guide you to find the same peace, joy, and presence in your life – and I look forward to being with you on this journey!
